23 August 2022 - Multihull News

We now have 5 confirmed multihull entries: apart from the local cats of Bert Schilder, Alex Brouwer and Gerben Talsma, John Bennett has entered with a Hobie Adventure trimaran.
Mike Kerszemaker has entered a home-built 6.0 x 3.6m cat with an interesting rig which resembles that of the legendary Crossbow II which reached 33.8 knots at the 1979 Weymouth speed trials.

23 August 2022 - News from Germany

There are now two confirmed entries from Germany: Julian Hielscher and his Jewelbox Jr and Raban Stumme who is bringing a 110-year old sailing gig.
Two very different boats: one a brand new cruiser and the other an aging lady built for speed.

Welcome!

25 June 2022 The French are coming

Emmanuel Conrath and Marco Dessardo liked the Challenge Naviguer Leger in the Netherlands so much that they registered for the Raid Extreme. Marco with his new Viola Canoe and Emmanuel with the Silmaril XL ‘Vita Brevis’ currently under construction, or if it isn’t ready with his trusty GIS ‘Let’s Goat’.

Bienvenue au Raid Extreme 2022, messieurs!

Sebastiaan van Rossum tells us about the Hobie Trimaran With the Very Long Name that he and son Simon sailed at the Raid Extreme 2021.

26 March 2022 - Some preview statistics for the 2022 Raid Extreme

I know, it is only the last weekend of March, but you may already preparing yourself mentally for the 2022 Raid Extreme of 2-4 Sept.

The 2021 winner sailed 49.69km in 5 hours 43 minutes averaging 8.64km/h or 4.66kn. In the light-wind event of 2018 the winner averaged 3.54kn.

So far we have 3 entries from the UK, 1 from Germany and 11 from the Netherlands. We are hoping for more French and German entries to make this a truly international event.

Except for the Bert Schilder's Nacra 6.0m all entries are monohulls but we anticipate more catamaran entries in the weeks leading up to the event. And we are hoping for some trimarans!
The Mirror is currently the most popular with 2 entries
The two Mirrors and the Morbic 12 are the smaller boats.
The Nacra 6.0m, Liteboat and Caledonian Yawl are the biggest boats.

In between we have the comfort cruisers: Huberts Hatseflats, Julian Hielscher's Jewelbox Jr and Arjens bomb-proof CLC Pocketship.

From the current data there will be either 5 sailing canoes or depending of Joost Engelen's plans 4 sailing canoes and a GIS.
With today's data the sailing canoes, GIS, Liteboat and Nacra 6.0 will be the boats to beat - until some Moths decide to join the fun!

23 March 2022 - Boat profile: Liteboat XP (Josien Kapma)

Josien Kapma and her family returned to the Netherlands after many years abroad. Josien got back into sailing and bought a Drascombe Lugger for cruising. Then she put her Lugger for sale and bought a Liteboat XP. The same design in which the Bonnier brothers nearly won the Raid Extreme overall prize in 2018.

06 March 2022 - Less than 6 months to go

The 2022 Raid Extreme is looking good with 11 boats were registered for the 2022 Raid Extreme in the first month.
Boats are ranging from two 11' Mirror dinghies and a Morbic 12, a couple of canoes, some dinghies, two cabin boats and a 20' Caledonian Yawl.
Koos' entertaining Youtube video of the 2021 Raid Extreme attracted over 1750 views within 4 weeks which indicates a growing interest in the event.

05 March 2022 - Preparing for the Raid Extreme at -2C

Koos wanted to make sure that his new camping gear would stand up to the rigours of the Raid Extreme and installed himself in the garden next to our apartment.
You can see the frost on the tarp and tent so it was a bit cold.
But with the outdoor fireplace heating up the morning air and fried bacon and eggs accompanied by cowboy coffee the whole project turned a very cosy winter camp.

04 March 2022 - Boat portrait of Bubbels

Having arrived at the eleventh hour for the Raid Extreme 2021, Frits is returning with Mirror Bubbels and will be joined by at least one other Mirror owned by Koos Buist.
With Paul's Morbic 12 of around the same length it is time to introduce the Extreme Dwarf award for dinghies up to 12 feet.

13 February 2022 - Lauren Lou, Proteus and Jewelbox

Mark completed the 2018 Raid NL with a Whitewater Prospector canoe. For the Raid Extreme he returns with a new weapon: a carbon/kevlar beauty called Lauren Lou.

After Julian participated in the 2016 Raid Extreme with a very narrow duck punt, he decided to build a more comfortable boat for the 2022 edition: a Michalak-designed Jewelbox Jr.
It will be finished in the same white and racing green livery as the famous Lotus Cortinas of the late sixties.
Veteran Paul W hopes to finally make it to the Raid Extreme with Proteus, a Morbic 12 built for the 2020 Dorestad Raid.

12 February 2022 - Old and New

A 'vintage' plywood Mirror and a brand new alloy CLC Pocketship are among the first entries for the Raid Extreme 2022.
Both are DIY projects: Frits restored his 1975 Mirror to as-new condition and created an innovative spinnaker chute which he used to good effect during the 2021 Raid Extreme and Dorestad Raid.
There will be at least two Mirror dinghies this year so we may have to create an additional prize for boats under 4m.

Arjen started with the drawings of the CLS Pocketship but built the hull from aluminium sheets instead of plywood. A labour of love which we are looking forward to see on the water.

05 February 2022 - Presentation at winter meeting of Natuurlijk Varen

Koos presented the Raid Extreme 2022 at the online winter meeting of the Dutch sail and oars group 'Natuurlijk Varen'.
After Koos and Hubert, the first to register were Paul Waterman (Morbic 12), Onno and Anneke (Caledonian Yawl),Viola (Viola 14), Joost (undisclosed), Frits (Mirror), Koos (Mirror) and Arjan (alloy CLC Pocketship)

After the meeting Koos released the Youtube video of the 2021 Raid Extreme which scored over 500 views in the first 12 hours (now 1500+ and counting)
