Liteboat XP
Boat profile: Liteboat XP (Josien Kapma)

Josien Kapma and her family returned to the Netherlands after many years abroad. Josien got back into sailing and bought a Drascombe Lugger for cruising. Then she put her Lugger for sale and bought a Liteboat XP. The same design in which the Bonnier brothers nearly won the Raid Extreme overall prize in 2018.

Why did you switch from a Lugger to a LiteBoat XP?
I first bought the Lugger to rediscover cruising with small boats and joined the Dutch Drascombe owners association. It felt right at the time but I didn't see a future for myself like this.
I discovered 'Natuurlijk Varen', dinghy cruising and various voile-aviron and sail and oars groups on the internet. Many people in these groups were well into their sixties and spent much of their time building and restoring boats. During covid I decided that even when cruising, I wanted to sail and row harder and faster.
On the internet I had found some information about raids, serious challenges like the R2AK (Race to Alaska) and fun experimental challenges like the Raid Extreme.
I looked into new and lightweight designs, multihulls, advanced human-powered propulsion mechanisms and was strangely attracted to the Liteboat XP.
Being lightly built and designed for speed the Liteboat XP is unforgiving so I put it aside but kept coming back to it until I sailed on the Dutch importer's boat and took the plunge.
So here I am having bought a very demanding and fast boat while I am turning 50.
The LiteBoat XP is whispering 'midlife crisis' but I am looking forward to getting started.
