How did you invent the WetBicycle?
I am a racing cyclist and a windsurfer.
When I saw a solo water bike on the HISWA in the 1980s I started thinking how I could improve on it.
I never got the idea out of my mind but there was always other work that came first.
Around 2010 my alloy construction business was slack and I suddenly had time to put my ideas into a product. The first wet bicycle was just for myself, but the concept looked suitable enough for a bigger market.

What makes the WetBicycle unique?
Its speed using pedal power.

What was the hardest part to make?
The gear mechanism to transfer the power of the pedal wheel to the propellor was the hardest part.
The board itself is the nicest part to look at.

What is the secret of the WetBicycle Duo?
We found that the Lauwersmeer can be too rough for a single WetBicycle.
After we connected two WetBicycles we felt that the safety was much improved, so we could still participate in the Raid Extreme.

What would you change?
The gear mechanism can still be improved.

Can the WetBicycle be rented for events such as the Raid Extreme?
